Town Council Vacancy

Vice Mayor James Murray will step down from Town Council this summer to pursue his education at Duke University School of Law.  Vice Mayor Murray’s departure will create a vacancy on Town Council, which will be filled by an appointment of a qualified candidate as chosen by the Town Council.  The individual who is appointed will serve on Town Council through June 30, 2018.  The Town Council will be conducting interviews from late April through early June of potential candidates to fulfill Vice Mayor Murray’s unexpired term.  The Town will accept applications through April 30, 2017.  The fillable application form can be found by clicking on the following link: Application.


  • Must be able to attend all Town Council meetings, which occur the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM.
  • Must be a Town resident.  
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Must be registered to vote in Town elections.  

Submit your completed application to Joseph Collins, Clerk of Council, by email at, by dropping off your application at Town Hall,  or by mail.
