The floodplain is a nationally directed program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The program is divided into three parts: regulation, assistance, and education. For property owners to receive federal floodplain insurance the Town of Ashland must adopt local regulations and administer the program according to FEMA review.

The floodplain map and regulations govern activity within the floodplain. Any development, as defined below, will need to be permitted within the floodplain. This may require a floodplain permit, elevation certificate, and/or site plan application, to be completed.
Development: Any man-made change to improved or unimproved real estate, including, but not limited to, buildings or other structures, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation or drilling operations or storage of equipment or materials.
On November 9, 2016, the Town of Ashland was accepted into FEMA's Community Rating System (CRS) program at a Class 9 rating. This classification allows residents to possibly receive a 5% discount on the premium cost of their floodplain insurance.

How do I remove my property or building from the floodplain?
Go to FEMA's website and review the documents for a Letter of Map Change or Amendment (LOMC or LOMA). These applications will need to be completed by a surveyor or engineer. If you have any questions, please contact Town Hall.
