The Ashland Police Department maintains records that deal with day to day operations. Those day to day records include, but are not limited to: 
 
    1) FR-300 (accident reports for those involved or financially interested parties); 
    2) Traffic Citations; 
    3) Certain Incident Reports; 
    4) Limited Information Regarding Criminal Arrests. 


Any individual can request information. A request for records can be made by U.S. Mail, fax, e-mail, in person, or over the phone. FOIA does not require that your request be in writing, nor do you need to specifically state that you are requesting records under FOIA.

2016 Press Releases

June 13, 2016; Ashland PD Makes Arrest in Weekend Felonious Assault: On Friday, June 10, 2016 at about 10:30 p.m., Ashland police officers responded to a motel in the 600 block of North Washington Highway in Ashland for a complaint of a felonious assault. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male suffering from severe injuries resulting from an attack with a machete. The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

May 18, 2016; Ashland Police Department Participates in Nationwide Campaign: From May 23 to June 5 the Ashland Police Department will work to reduce the number of crash related deaths and serious injuries by participating in the statewide CLICK IT OR TICKET campaign. In 2014, over half (53%) of all traffic fatalities in Virginia, or 250 deaths, were unrestrained drivers and passengers.

April 6, 2016; Ashland PD Makes Drug, Nuisance Arrests at Apple Garden Inn: Ashland Police investigators have arrested a local man for drug distribution and the owner of an Ashland motel for maintaining a drug nuisance.

March 31, 2016; Ashland PD Attempts to Identify Prescription Fraud Suspects:

The Ashland Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying possible prescription fraud suspects.

November 23, 2015; Ashland Police Announce 2015 Increased Holiday Shopping Patrol Activity and Shopper Safety Information: The Ashland Police Department reminds shoppers to keep safety in mind as they search for that perfect gift this holiday season.

November 13, 2015; Ashland Police Department Announces Downtown Pedestrian Safety Initiative: During the next few weeks, in an effort to provide continued safety to our pedestrians, the Ashland Police Department will be conducting ongoing traffic safety enforcement in Ashland with a special emphasis on speeding and crosswalk infractions. Officers will also be on the watch for reckless driving, texting and other traffic safety violations.

November 12, 2015; Ashland PD Makes Arrest in Convenience Store Robberies: The Ashland Police Department has arrested a suspect in two robberies of a convenience store.

September 17, 2015; Ashland PD Investigates Thefts from Vehicles: The Ashland Police Department is investigating a series of larcenies from vehicles that occurred from Friday, September 11 to Tuesday, September 15. These incidents occurred in residential neighborhoods and apartment complexes, and involved unlocked vehicles. Ashland police investigators have arrested one individual in connection to these incidents. This is an ongoing investigation and further arrests are anticipated.

August 24, 2015; Ashland Police Remind Residents of Back to School Safety: The Ashland Police Department reminds residents that school begins Tuesday, September 8 and school buses and children will once again be travelling our streets and sidewalks. Ashland Police officers will be conducting proactive patrols of school zones and bus stops to insure the safety of students and motorists.

August 18, 2015; Ashland PD Joins in Nationwide Impaired Driving Prevention Initiative: The Ashland Police Department will join nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the nation in support of the “DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER” impaired driving crackdown August 21, 2015 to September 7, 2015.

July 22, 2015; Ashland PD Charges Two in Gas Station Robbery: The Ashland Police Department has charged two individuals in connection to the robbery of a gas station.

July 1, 2015; APD Receives Free Bicycle Lights for Safety Initiative: Thanks to a gracious donation from Olde Town Bicycles in Ashland, the Ashland Police Department is providing a limited number of free bicycle lights to increase the visibility and safety of people riding bikes at night.

June 8, 2015; Ashland Police Investigate Overnight Fatal Accident: On June 7, 2015 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Ashland police officers responded to the 12000 block of Washington Highway for a report of traffic collision involving a tractor trailer and a bicyclist.

May 21, 2015; Ashland PD Makes Arrest in Infant Death: The Ashland Police Department has charged the parents of an infant with felony child neglect after an investigation into their child’s death in October of 2014.

May 18, 2015; Ashland Police Department Participates in Nationwide Campaign: From May 18th to May 31st the Ashland Police Department will work to reduce the number of crash related deaths and serious injuries by participating in the statewide CLICK IT OR TICKET campaign.

May 11, 2015; Ashland Police Department Announces Crosswalk Enforcement Initiative: In an effort to provide continued safety to our pedestrians, the Ashland Police Department will be conducting crosswalk safety enforcement at crosswalks in Ashland beginning Monday, May 18th through Sunday, May 24th.

March 23, 2015; Ashland PD Makes Drug Distribution Arrest: After completing a several month long investigation of narcotics activity in Ashland’s South Taylor Street area Ashland police investigators arrested Shannon Watkins, 34 years of age of the 100 block of Arlington Street, on Thursday, March 19, 2015 for two counts of possession with intent to distribute illegal narcotics.

February 25, 2015; Ashland PD Seeks Help with Cold Case Homicide Investigation on Crime’s 13th Anniversary: The Ashland Police Department is seeking any information that may lead to the arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for the murder of Truman Stanley.

February 25, 2015; Ashland PD Seeks Assistance Identifying Credit Card Fraud Suspect: The Ashland Police Department is seeking assistance identifying the individual pictured above suspected of fraudulently using credit cards at the Wal-Mart store in Ashland on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at about 1:00 p.m.

February 10, 2015; Ashland PD Arrests Local Hotel Manager in Benefit Fraud: The Ashland Police Department, working in partnership with the Hanover County Department of Social Services, arrested two individuals for fraudulent activities involving the illegal purchase and use of Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (i.e. food stamps).

December 22, 2014; Ashland PD Extends Thanks to Community for Support of “Shop-with-a-Cop” Program: The Ashland Police Department would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to the Ashland business community for their steadfast support of our annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Due to the generosity of our community, and in partnership with Ashland Christian Emergency Services (ACES), we were able to provide a merry Christmas to 22 deserving children and their families in our community. Without the donations of our community, this would not have been possible.

November 26, 2014; Ashland Police Make Arrest in Elder Fraud Case: Ashland investigators arrest suspect for several felonies in elder fraud case.

November 17, 2014; Ashland Police Warn Residents of Phone Scams: Residents should be aware of common, ongoing phone scams operating in the Richmond Metro area.

August 13, 2014; Ashland Police Investigate Daytime Robbery at Food Lion: On Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Ashland Police Officers responded for a robbery of the Food Lion supermarket located at the 100 block of Junction Drive in Ashland. The suspect produced a black and silver handgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of money.

August 12, 2014; Ashland Police Department Receives 2014 National and State Traffic Safety Awards: The Ashland Police Department is the proud recipient of national and state awards recognizing the Department’s efforts in increasing traffic safety.

June 25, 2014; Ashland PD Reminds Residents of New Moped Registration Requirements Beginning July 1st: The Ashland Police Department reminds all residents that Virginia law requires mopeds operated on Virginia roadways to be titled and registered by Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

June 6, 2014; Ashland Police Department and Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Make Drug Distribution Arrests at Apple Garden Inn Motel: After completing a several month long investigation of narcotics activity at the Apple Garden Inn located at 99 South Carter Road in Ashland the Ashland Police Department, in conjunction with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, arrested four individuals for a variety of charges including possession and distribution of illegal narcotics.

April 18, 2014; The Ashland Police Department Joins Efforts to Stop Distracted Driving in Virginia: The Ashland Police Department joins with DRIVE SMART Virginia in the effort to stop distracted driving by participating in Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

March 31, 2014; Ashland PD Make Arrests in Recent Purse Thefts:

Acting on several tips from the community Ashland Police charged and arrested three suspects in connection with recent larcenies of purses at local supermarkets.
